My bachelor’s thesis explores the conceptual and design challenges of modular systems in sailing. To validate the theoretically derived principles of flexibility and scalability, I created a detailed 1:10 scale model.
The model was created using a hybrid manufacturing process. The complex basic geometries were produced additively using PLA 3D printing and then finished by hand through intensive craftsmanship. Through sanding and filling processes, as well as a final coat of paint, the raw print was transformed into a high-quality design model that makes the proportions, joints, and aesthetic impact of the modular concept immediately comprehensible.
